What’s the difference between the annual and monthly subscription?

The annual and monthly subscription plans offer the same benefits—the only difference is pricing and the frequency at which you are billed. By choosing the annual plan, you save 11% compared to paying month-to-month.


What’s the difference between a membership vs. a free Atlas Obscura account?

A free Atlas Obscura account allows you to interact with The Atlas by contributing and editing community place pages, creating lists, and tracking where you’ve been and want to go. 

Paid members get early access to new tools and features, receive an exclusive members-only newsletter with highlights and commentary from our staff, get a $100 discount on our small-group trips, see fewer ads on our website, have access to members-only virtual events, and get a special badge on their Atlas Obscura profile page.


Are Atlas Obscura articles still accessible to non-members?

Yes! Our editorial and video content is free and accessible to everyone.


How do I redeem my $100 trip discount?

After reserving your Atlas Obscura trip, send an email to [email protected] and we'll provide instructions for applying the discount to your final payment. (Note that the $100 discount cannot be applied to the initial deposit.)


How do I change the billing information associated with my membership?

Memberships automatically renew monthly or annually, depending on your subscription. If you need to update your billing information, please visit your profile and click “Manage Billing.”


How do I cancel my membership?

You can cancel your membership at any time. Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer full or prorated refunds for a completed billing cycle once your account has been charged. To cancel, visit your profile and click “Manage Billing.”

How We Handle Your Information

Members will be subscribed to a members-only mailing list. This mailing list is how we’ll notify you about upcoming member events, show you how to test new features before they launch, share newly added member benefits, and deliver other exciting member announcements.

You'll also receive emails from our payment processor, Stripe, regarding your payment, including invoices and renewal notices. Your email address and personal information will never be given to third parties.
